The Mosquito Coast is a 1982 novel by Paul Theroux about a brilliant but paranoid inventor, Allie Fox, who abandons modern American society to build a utopian civilization in the Honduran jungle with his family, narrated by his 14-year-old son, Charlie. The story follows the family's journey as Allie's idealistic vision devolves into a dark, dangerous obsession, exploring themes of anti-consumerism, individualism, and the clash between civilization and the wild. It was adapted into a 1986 film starring Harrison Ford and a recent Apple TV+ series.
