Khione is the hat you’ll reach for when winter bites. She has a triple brim for warmth and fit, a puff stitch rib for texture and style, and crown shaping that flows seamlessly. The stitch pattern is fully explained in the pattern, with a dedicated video tutorial to guide you every step of the way.

CONSTRUCTION

Khione is worked from the brim up and features a double-folded brim for extra warmth and structure.

The brim is composed of two sections of 1×1 rib on the inside, with a Puff Stitch Rib section sandwiched between them on the outside. This construction ensures a snug, cozy fit around the ears and allows the Puff Stitch Rib to flow seamlessly into the body of the hat.

You begin with a 1×1 rib section, then work the Puff Stitch Rib, followed by a second 1×1 rib section. After this, the work is turned inside out so the Puff Stitch Rib appears on the outside and continues through the body. The crown is shaped with decreases that are worked in pattern.

Circumference 47 cm / 18.5”.

Height (with the brim folded twice) 23 cm / 9”.

For a snug fit, the hat should be worn with 5 – 7.5 cm / 2 – 3” of negative ease.

YARN

A fingering weight yarn held together with a silk mohair lace weight yarn.

Approx 300 m / 330 yards of both yarns.

If you’re not into mohair, or holding yarns together, you can substitute with a DK weight yarn.

Sample shown in Sandnes Garn Tynn Peer Gynt, 100% wool, 205 m / 224 yards per 50 gr, color 1021 held together with Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair, 70% mohair, 30% silk, 225 m / 246 yards per 25 gr, color Soft Blue.

NEEDLES

Needle A (for the Puff Stitch sections)

One 40 cm / 16” circular needle and a (set of) needle(s) for working small circumferences in the round, in size needed to obtain gauge listed.

Suggested needle size: 3.75 mm / US 5.

Needle B (for the 1×1 rib sections)

One 40 cm / 16” circular needle.

Suggested needle size: 3.25 mm / US 3.
