Butterfly in a Blizzard | Saddle Storms | Saddle Storms Album

She didn't survive pretty. She survived stubborn. Butterfly in a Blizzard is the story of a girl who learned at nine years old that nobody was coming to save her — so she stopped waiting.

First job at nine. Buying her own school clothes at twelve. Gone at seventeen into a life still unworn because standing still felt more dangerous than running blind. Wild as a badger on the outside. Terrified on the inside. Too proud to let a single soul see the difference. Wyoming doesn't raise delicate things. It raises survivors who don't know how to call themselves that. This song is for every woman who made it through on nothing but nerve and stubbornness and sheer refusal to quit — and never once got credit for how hard that actually was. She made it. God love her — she made it. Those teen-age years are hard for anyone to get through. They were even harder when you are stubborn and storm filled. Original by Saddle Storms.

[Verse 1] She was wild as a badger and shy as a butterfly, Running from anything trying to cage her or tie her down. Defiant and stubborn as the day that she was born, At seventeen she bolted for a life still yet unworn. [Pre-Chorus] Underneath the wild there was a girl who felt alone, So used to doing everything herself she'd turned it into bone. [Chorus] She was a butterfly in a blizzard looking for a place to land, Too wild to be held and too scared to take a hand. Her way or the highway, written in stone that wouldn't break, Just a girl in a Wyoming storm doing whatever it takes. She didn't need the world — Hell, she barely needed herself. [Verse 2] First job at nine years old, buying school clothes at twelve, She learned real early that nobody was coming to help. Liquid courage in a bar glass, life of the party on her worst nights, Screaming on the inside while she laughed in the lights. [Pre-Chorus] She didn't belong and she knew it and she'd be damned if she'd show it, So she ran a little harder and she let nobody know it. [Chorus] [Bridge] If you could see her now, that wild and lonely girl, Running straight into the teeth of an unforgiving world. Daddy's rules were there to catch her — Lord she couldn't see it then, She was too far into running to know what she'd need when. God love that stubborn child, she was just trying to find her way, She gave everything she had on every impossible day. [Final Chorus] She was a butterfly in a blizzard looking for a place to land, Too wild to be held and too scared to take a hand. Her way or the highway, written in stone that wouldn't break, Just a girl in a Wyoming storm doing whatever it takes. She didn't need the world — Hell, she barely needed herself. [Outro] She made it. God love her — she made it. Wild as a badger, soft as she'd never admit, Butterfly in a blizzard — She never once quit.
