Stoma surgery, while a life-saving intervention for conditions like colorectal

cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), imposes significant and persistent

physical, psychological, and financial challenges in patients, known as

ostomates. The global ostomy care market, valued at approximately USD 3.87

billion in 2024 and projected to grow to USD 5.3 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 5.5%,

is driven by an aging global population and the rising prevalence of these

underlying diseases.

Despite being a mature industry, fundamental patient pain points remain largely

unresolved. Leakage anxiety is the foremost fear among ostomates, often leading

to social isolation. This is intrinsically linked to Peristomal Skin Complications

(PSCs), where a vicious cycle of adhesive failure, corrosive stoma output, and skin

erosion prevents subsequent pouches from adhering securely. Technical issues

such as "pancaking" (stool blockage at the stoma) and "ballooning" (gas buildup

from clogged filters) further diminish patient confidence and quality of life
