The Girl I Was When London Began
This is me sixteen years ago, standing in London with rain in my hair, hope in my heart, and no idea yet how deeply this city would change me. I had only just arrived, carrying little more than my dreams, my nerves, and that stubborn part of me that refused to turn back. Everything still felt new then—the streets, the noise, the cold, the rush, the danger, the promise.
When I look at this portrait, I do not see the woman I would become. I see the younger Samantha who had just stepped into a world far bigger and harder than anything she had known before. My face is innocent, but also determined. I was still learning what London really was, still discovering how beauty and struggle could live side by side, still at the beginning of the story that would shape me.
This image captures that first version of me: young, vulnerable, curious, and quietly fearless. I did not know then what waited for me in the city’s shadows, but I had already begun the journey. This was the moment before everything changed.
