Rolling Star

Barbara says – A fleamarket find, this quilt must have been a colourful charmer when it was first made (possibly in the 1930s).   It seems to have had heavy use over the years and all the fabrics are now very faded and fragile.  The quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted with a substantial cotton batting.  The small scale of the star blocks would lend itself to being remade in feedsack style fabrics or Liberty florals.
The original block size is just 6 inches and the quilt measures just over 80 inches square. You may not want to make a quilt this big, or a block that small so we have given you options - the original 6 inch blocks or larger 10 inch blocks. You could, as Barbara has done, opt to make just a few blocks as a runner or small lap quilt instead.
It is a great scrap project and templates are provided for you to stitch by hand (with or without papers) or machine. Several quilting suggestions are given - including the original quilting designs.
