Jagged Edge

A toe-up colourwork design which reminds me of the patterns on turkish carpets; finished with a choice of a traditional ribbed cuff, or a two colour hemmed picot edge if you’re feeling adventurous.

Sizes - measured around midfoot
  • Medium - to fit foot size 8-9” (20.25 - 22.75 cm)
  • Large - to fit foot size 9.5 - 11.5” (24 - 29 cm)
Please note that there is a jump of 12 stitches between the two sizes, so if you fall between the two, you may wish to consider making adjustments in the needle size.

Gauge

36 sts and 40 rounds = 4" (10cm) in stocking stitch AND colourwork, both in the round

Yarn Requirements
4ply/fingering weight sock yarn.  Any that gives gauge should be suitable.

In terms of the amount of yarn you need, for both sizes I would suggest 100g of main colour; for the contrast you should be fine with just 50g for the smaller size and you may be with the larger but I would say that unless you love playing yardage chicken you’d be safer with 100g.

Needles and Notions
  • 2.25mm (US1) circular needles, or dpns
  • 2.75mm (US2) circular needles, or dpns
  • stitch markers
  • tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
There are minor differences in the pattern between the two sizes, both pairs illustrated are Medium, the Large has a slightly different distribution of the pattern repeat.

The instructions for the construction of the socks are all written, the colourwork pattern is only charted.
