Often called “the mother of the freedom movement”, Rosa Parks started a shift in American culture that is still causing ripples and changing lives now. It has been a slow change but without people like Rosa Parks then we may still be living in a totally segregated world.

This lesson plan introduces this icon of the civil rights movement to children in a gentle and accessible way, while teaching relaxation and mindfulness skills.

This lesson plan is age appropriate and includes relaxation techniques such as breathing techniques and simple yoga poses as well as basic mindfulness strategies.

Mindfulness and relaxation have been proven to increase children's concentration, create a calm atmosphere and even increase attainment. It is a wonderful addition to any setting.

All my lesson plans are created for people with no prior knowledge of relaxation and mindfulness techniques and carefully go through every technique step by step. They also include a fun script for you to read through which incorporates all the techniques learned into an enjoyable, relaxing story which is completely age appropriate.

My lessons all come with child and teacher assessment sheets which are fully editable and enable you to show evidence for the progress and learning for each child.

This lesson is most suitable for KS2 (7-11 years).
