40 rare recordings (1927–1956) and 65 antique photographs celebrating the maternal theme in American music and culture.

Description

Never A Pal Like Mother brings together 40 vintage recordings from 1927–1956 alongside 65 antique photographs drawn from the collections of Sarah Bryan, Jim Linderman, and others.

The music, collected from legendary 78rpm archives (including Joe Bussard’s), paints two vivid portraits:

  • the presence of mothers in daily life—kindness, discipline, teaching, and love.
  • the loss of mothers, the grief of absence, and the resilience found in memory and faith.

Accompanying the recordings is a selection of evocative photographs and essays, including a foreword by Rosanne Cash and commentary by Sarah Bryan, that deepen the reflection on motherhood as both personal and cultural anchor.

Praise & Reviews

“Mom, that’s who… Never a Pal Like Mother features 40 songs from the early 20th century culled from vintage 78 rpm recordings… The songs and photos lie within an exquisitely designed double‑CD/book that’s hopelessly devoted to Her.”
