Financial Tracker
One of the most common questions I am asked as a home educator, is how do we afford to home ed!
Well for us, the answer changes. I first decided to give up work when I had my first son, home ed was the goal but at the time it was to be a stay at home mum. I committed to making sacrifices, to simplify our life and to make it work. I knew what this looked like would change over time, but that first leap was absolutely the biggest change.
I managed to give up work by making as many cuts as possible; I sold my car, I cooked from scratch, we haven't been on holiday since my first son was born. It's not for everyone, but for us it works.
I even said to my husband, if we have to I'll sell the house and live in a caravan by the sea. I was adamant.
Anyway, I have been having a lot of conversations on TT & insta recently about this, so I thought I'd post my Financial Tracker that I used initially to work out how much money we COULD survive on, which allowed us to work backwards to how much my hubby and I NEEDED to work. I managed to give up work fully for a year, then worked from home part time and now I've given up work again (since having my second child).
We redo this financial tracker every year, and it really helps us to get on track with our spending and encourages us to revisit our priorities.
