Their Rock and Their Wings | Saddle Storms | Saddle Storms Album

She became a mama at eighteen with no manual, no roadmap, and no backup. This song is for my biggest fans and cheering section, my children. They have been through every storm with me.

Their Rock and Their Wings is the song nobody writes enough — not the Instagram version of motherhood, but the real one. Hospital beds and midnight prayers. A thousand-mile drive because somebody needed saving. Skinned knees and snakes thrown at her and one kid looking up with innocent eyes saying I like salad like that explains everything. A baby at the end so tiny and fierce she could only have come from fire. She didn't always have solid ground beneath her feet. She just kept finding another breath every time they needed one. That's not a superhero. That's a mama. And there's a difference.

Original by Saddle Storms written while oldest son was passing and needing the strength to keep everyone together.

[Verse 1] She became a mama at the ripe old age of eighteen, To a boy determined she would never take his mama's place. They chose each other when the whole world looked away, She couldn't take his roots but she could give him room to grow. Then came a baby she was terrified she'd break somehow— He grew her up in ways she didn't even know. [Pre-Chorus] She was just a girl herself trying to figure out the road, But love has a way of showing you what you already know. [Chorus] She kissed the skinned knees, said it's a long way from your heart, Sat by hospital beds and begged God for another start. Drove a thousand miles one way when they needed to be saved, She'd drive a million more — that's just the mama way. She gave them everything she had, alone, and then gave more— That's why they call her mama. That's what she was made for. She is their rock and their wings. [Verse 2] Then came the wild one, just like her own stubborn soul, He did it all alone even with a hand to hold. They threw snakes at her, looked up with innocent eyes, Said "I like salad" — Lord she loved them just the same. Last came the miracle, so tiny, fierce and free, A phoenix made of fire and her mama's stubborn flame. [Pre-Chorus] She never had a manual, never had a hand to hold, Just figured love was louder than the fear of letting go. [Chorus] [Bridge] There were nights she talked to God with nothing left to give, Just "one more miracle please Lord, let them live." She didn't always have the answers or solid ground beneath, But every time they needed her she found another breath. [Final Chorus] She kissed the skinned knees, said it's a long way from your heart, Sat by hospital beds and begged God for another start. Drove a thousand miles one way when they needed to be saved, She'd drive a million more — that's just the mama way. She gave them everything she had, alone, and then gave more— That's why they call her mama. That's what she was made for. She is their rock. She is their wings. [Outro] Their rock. Their wings. That's why they call her mama. That's why they call her mama.
