As Her Father Wept - Book Five
Book Five of the Shay Donovan Series
"As Her Father Weeps"
After being married for three years, Shay Donovan and Olivia Stone opened Donovan Investigations. After downsizing their worldly possession, everything they own is now in our one-bedroom condo, overlooking the beautiful sandy beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
That day, the quietness of the beach was interrupted by a screaming sound for help. It was a dreadful, blood-curdling scream. Olivia turned toward the hideous sound and saw a woman standing at the water's edge. Olivia continued running and kicking through the ocean. When it was too deep to move, I dove into the water and began swimming to the bobbing body. Reaching out, I took hold of one of her limbs. Instantly, I knew she was dead by the feel of her bloated body. Now, without a doubt in my head, my first concern was getting her and me safely back to shore.
Olivia Meats The Clients
When Olivia opened the door, four prominent men stood before her. They were big and tall and dressed in cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and Western-style silk suits. Olivia greeted the men with her best smile and focused on the oldest man. She was confident they were from Sandy's home state of Texas. The oldest man took charge and expressed a harsh and unforgiving tone as he spoke to Olivia. His weathered face and tired eyes showed his hardships over the years.
The Older Man of the group explained that he was referred to Olivia by Mary Butler, the child of his sister, who believed Olivia could help find out what happened to his now-dead child. His eyes glistened with unshed tears as he met her gaze, and the strain on his tobacco-stained teeth was unmistakable. Standing up, he introduced himself solemnly as CJ Montgomery, a man in the oil industry. Yet, his shattered demeanor hinted at a soul utterly unprepared for the tragedy that had befallen his little Sandy. The rawness of his grief was apparent as he wiped at his eyes with hands weathered and calloused. His unyielding stare at her bore the weight of his anger and a desire for justice.
It was clear to Olivia that this man thirsted for retribution. "You hit the streets and look for the cockroaches that killed my baby." The man's tone was now gruffly demanding, and his words tinged with an edge of righteous fury. The kind of revenge that Olivia was no stranger to. But now, South Beach had been overrun by Russian ex-military men wanting their piece of the American dream.
