Mahari: The Man Who Would Be Moses

The year is 1862. The ancient isolated community of the Beta Israel, the Ethiopian Jews, have their faith eroded by many years of misfortune, persecution, and Christian missionaries. Abba Mahari, an Ethiopian Jewish monk, gathers a group of men who follow him in his daring dream: paving a road to Jerusalem. Abba Mahari believes that the time for redemption has come, and that the Lord shall carry his people across the sea, like at the time of Exodus.

Abba Mahari's faith rekindled the ancient dream of Ethiopian Jews to reach the Holy Land, and prepared the ground for the great Ethiopian exodus, at the end of which the Beta Israel community was ultimately replanted in Israel.
