R. Daiss has taught, lived and dog-sledded with Eskimos in Nome, Alaska; taught in Anchorage when the Good Friday Earthquake occurred; served in state enforcement of commercial salmon fishing laws on Kodiak Island; trapped furs one winter in the interior while living with an Indian mentor, Jack Justine; and one summer prospected for gold in the Kantishna region, now part of Denali National Park. The reader will realize the author's stories are partially created from these experiences. He has published twenty nonfiction outdoor articles in nine periodicals. His book "Open Range" consists of free verse of the old American West.
