Commonly referred to as either cot or crib death, the sudden infant death syndrome concept is used in reference to the instant and unexplained death of a child of less than one year old in age. Such deaths often occur in circumstances that are not readily explained either by science or medicine (Hunt & Hauck, 2007). This inability to attach a conclusive cause of death to such scenario dictate that any diagnosis made refrains from making any premature assumptions therefore the death is left unexplained in spite of a thorough autopsy being conducted and detailed death scene investigation being conducted.
