Competencies for Artificial Intelligence Model-Based System Engineering: State of the Art and Future Perspectives

This doctoral capstone examines the competencies required to successfully apply artificial intelligence-enabled model-based system engineering (AI MBSE) within digital transformation initiatives. Drawing on qualitative interviews with leaders in the U.S. space industry, the study explores how AI MBSE competency is understood in relation to domain expertise, workforce capability, program risk, accountability, trust, decision authority, and program performance. The findings provide practical and research-based insight for executives, engineering leaders, systems practitioners, and organizations evaluating AI-enabled engineering transformation and developing the human capabilities needed to implement AI MBSE effectively.
