FMTV (Family of medium tactical vehicles)
The FMTV (Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles) is a series of 4x4 and 6x6 military trucks developed for the U.S. Army to replace older medium trucks like the M35 and M939. Built originally by Stewart & Stevenson and now produced by Oshkosh Defense, the FMTV is based on the Austrian Steyr 12M18 design and includes numerous variants such as cargo, van, wrecker, tanker, dump, and HIMARS launcher platforms. These vehicles offer high mobility, payload capacity (2.5 to 10 tons), and modular armor kits for added protection.
FMTVs feature all-wheel drive, Caterpillar diesel engines, and are designed for easy maintenance with a high degree of parts commonality. They serve a wide range of roles including troop transport, logistics, command and control, and engineering support.
