I'm a disabled artist who creates from bed. I got into collages and paper-cutting a few years ago while recovering from a clotting crisis. Finding peace amongst the clippings of paper and coloring each piece by hand has proven to be great therapy for me. I can get lost in the colors of my art and snipping each piece out to rearrange it into something beautiful and meaningful.

In Mexico, calaveras are traditionally made from sugar, which represent the sweetness of life. They are also based in the Mexican belief system that death is always present in a person's life. They remind us to enjoy all the special moments while we have them.

I find calaveras to be a fitting them for those of us who live with chronic illness and disability. My sugar skull collections tend to sell out fast. They're one of the most popular items in my studio.
