Classical Orchestration for the AmusTCL

The goal of this book is to teach you how to re-create a full orchestral score from a piano reduction of a Classical era (c.1750-1827) work.

This book is aimed at anyone with an interest in writing for orchestra, especially candidates taking exams such as the Trinity AmusTCL, which includes Classical orchestration as an option.

You will learn about the instruments that made up a typical Classical orchestra, and their special characteristics. You will learn how the instruments combine in various ways, and how to voice chords across the orchestral texture.

This knowledge will then be applied to working out an AmusTCL style question, where a piano reduction on 2, 3 or 4 staves needs to be orchestrated in full.

The PDF includes a practice question with full commentary, to help you consolidate your skills, plus a bibliography for further reading.
