CIRRUS

Cirrus’ most prominent design feature are the eye-catching but easy to work giant mosaic shapes. Depending on the surroundings, these shapes can be thought of as flowers, delicate sea creatures or windmills.

But there is more; cute dots, garter stitch stripes, and a lovely, wearable shape. And yes, it seems like a lot, but the well thought out details and the meticulously balanced proportions prevent it from being over-the-top in any way. Although Cirrus will turn heads wherever you go, she is also remarkably easy to wear and effortlessly elegant.

CONSTRUCTION

Cirrus is a sideways constructed triangle. You will start with a few stitches, and work increases to shape the shawl. The upper edge of the shawl is further shaped by working German short rows. After the body of the shawl is completed, you will pick up stitches on the left lower edge of your shawl to work the border around both the lower edges.

Approx 175 cm / 69” wingspan along the top edge and 65 cm / 25.5” deep.

NEEDLES

Needle A (for the body and the border of the shawl)

One 100 cm / 40 inch (or longer) circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge listed.

Suggested needle size: 3.5 mm / US #4.

Needle B (for the Lateral braid)

One 100 cm / 40 inch circular needle.

Suggested needle size: 3 mm / US #2.5.

YARN

Fingering weight yarn, preferably with some elasticity and bounce (wool or a wool blend).

MC approx 550 m / 600 yards.

CC approx 575 m / 630 yards.

Note: the MC is the color of the flowers. The pattern is written to result in light flowers on a darker background. If you want to reverse this (dark flowers on a lighter background) use the separate PDF for the mosaic colorwork.
