Cupping & Moxa Set

Description:

Cupping in China has always combined suction with something more. As early as the Yuan dynasty, bamboo cups were boiled in herbal medicine before use, so the vacuum pulled at the skin while a second effect worked into it at the same time, one vessel doing two jobs. Practitioners have carried that logic forward ever since, continually finding new ways to let a single cup do more.

This set takes that same principle further. Each cup has four small holes around its base, openings that let a practitioner do far more than draw stagnant blood and cold to the surface. A steel needle can also be inserted through one of these holes, letting heat travel in behind the pull, following the same logic as other warm-needle and warm-cupping methods. The set pairs well with ginger too, a slice placed beneath the point where the moxa heat sits, or a layer of ginger floss laid in first, adding ginger's own dispersing, warming nature to the work the cup and needle are already doing.

Moxa floss or moxa sticks are not included and will need to be sourced separately.

Usage note:

Removing and reinserting a steel or acupuncture needle breaks the seal on the stopper and calls for a replacement. We recommend a slightly thicker needle for durability, left in place between uses. This keeps the stopper changes to a minimum, since frequent swapping is what tends to cause air leaks.
