Otways

Otways is a simple colourwork beanie, knit in the round from the brim upwards. Inspired by the windswept beauty of Victoria’s Otway coastal region, its three harmonious colours form a neat chevron pattern reminiscent of rolling waves meeting rugged cliffs. Thoughtfully designed for those new to colourwork, the pattern offers a gentle and satisfying introduction to stranded knitting. With a snug, close fit and two options for crown shaping, Otways is both practical and quietly evocative; perfect for bracing seaside walks or crisp mornings closer to home.

Construction:

Otways is a simple colourwork beanie knit from the brim upwards. The three colours form a neat little chevron pattern that is perfect for those new to colourwork. Two colours are worked at a time for two of every four rounds, and colours are never carried more than three stitches.

This is a snug and close fitting beanie with two options for working the crown; a simpler option and one for those more confident in reading their work. The second option creates a beautiful snowflake like crown.

Sizing:

Size range fits approximately premmie to large adult.

To fit head size of: 

12/30.5 (14/35.5, 16/40.5, 18/45.5) [20/51, 22/56, 24/61] inches/cms with graduated negative ease across the size range.

Length of finished hat will be approximately: 

4¾”/12cm (5½”/14cm, 6¾”/17cm, 7¾”/19.5cm) 8¼”/21cm, 9¼”/23.5cm, 10¼”/26cm

* WOOLganic Organic Merino 8ply/DK (100% organic merino; 113yd [103m]/50g) - 1 ball each colour.

* OR DK/8ply weight of approximately: 

Main Colour: 30/25 (40/35, 50/40, 60/55) [70/65, 80/75, 90/85]

Contrast Colour 1: 20/20 (30/25, 30/25, 40/35) [40/35, 50/40, 60/50]

Contrast Colour 2: 10/10 (20/20, 20/20, 30/25) [30/25, 40/35, 50/40]
