American Literature, Poetry

Paul Vangelisti’s 23rd book reflects upon nature, urban living, love, and human relationships within the context of the transience of life. He eulogizes friends and figures of admiration—Ennio Correnti, Robert Crosson, Adolfo Bioy Casares—in between longer satirical and elegiac testimonies to a life lived in a climate (of Southern California) that offers only the slightest of seasonal alterations, and in which one’s all-too-fleeting existence is best measured by shadows.

Born in San Francisco in 1945, he has lived in Los Angeles since 1968. He edited or coedited the literary magazine Invisible City (1971–1982), the arts journal Ribot (1993–2002), The New Review of Literature (2003–2008), and Seismicity Editions (2004–2021), the publishing house of Otis College of Art and Design, where he also served as head of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program.

He has translated numerous books of poetry and drama from the Italian and French, including three for Green Integer: Tiziano Rossi’s People on the Run (2002), Amelia Rosselli’s War Variations (2004), and Adriano Spatola’s The Position of Things (2008).
