Women’s Rights Politics and Power, 1850-Present
This set of 5 lectures examines the history of the development of women’s civil and political rights in America from 1800 to the present. It will embrace a broad range of social, economic and political issues relating to differences in class, ethnicity and race and explore critical contemporary issues such as voting rights, limits within marriage, abortion, education, social expectations, economic dependence and empowerment, political leadership and workplace harassment. We will also examine the importance of figures such as Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Margaret Sanger, Betty Friedan and others.
