Life dealt a cruel blow to us. We learned the hard way what empowered with freedom meant. “Freedom is like a precious commodity,” Peter told me one day. I knew he was thinking about a past he missed. 

“The birds are so free,” I said to Peter one Spring morning. We were sitting under the oak tree, listening to their mindless chatter and the noise they created while flying this way and that, on wings, we both wished we had.
