England’s colonization from North America was heavily influenced by two major political decisions. One deciding factor were that other European colonies, such as France and Spain, were already beginning to colonize into the New America. Queen Elizabeth I sent 118 colonist, including Sir Walter Raleigh, to settle in land known today as Virginia. There were hopes that high profits would come from this settlement, although those efforts failed. It was almost two decades later that the English were able to colonize Virginia. Had England not colonized these parts of North America, the French and Spanish would have ultimately colonized most of the America soil.
