1a.  This lesson plan presents a blended Reading and P.E. task.  The students listen to a story and the go on their Bear Hut that mirrors the events of the story through physical activities that mimic events in the story such as “going through the grass, walking over water, sliding down the mountain, and hiding from the bear.”  It effectively engages students in the story and the individual activities because they get to act out their part as characters in the story. The lesson plan, as set up, allows for a fun, easily adapted and assessed task that addresses skill sets that elementary are required to practice and learn. The sequence of events incudes: the initial story-telling, followed by an explanation and demonstration of the bear hunt and physical activities that make up an obstacle course that follow the story line, and culminates with a student discussion of the activities and teacher assessment of student skill levels and implementation of necessary adjustments.
