One of the more unusual and genuinely useful study books I’ve come across. Beauregard takes a slightly idiosyncratic approach to technique, with studies designed specifically to improve airflow, finger coordination and intonation rather than just test difficult notes.

I particularly like how clearly the book explains what each study is trying to achieve. It’s written for instruments with at least four valves, and encourages the use of the most in-tune valve combinations available — for example, 2+4 instead of 1+2+3 where appropriate.

Although this edition is written for Euphonium in Treble Clef, I’d strongly recommend it to Eb and Bb Bass players too. The studies transfer brilliantly across the low brass family.

I chose this for my store because it makes you really think about how you play, especially the relationship between air, fingers and tongue which my students will be sick of hearing about!!
