Surviving Under the Sun
By Yusuf Salaam
A short story based on the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad.
Michael Washington lives a dreadful life in America. It is during a time after the descendants of slaves in America who had undergone centuries of abuse and terror picked up and carved out a territory of their own. Michael decides to leave his dreadful existence to visit the City of Salaam, a city located in the territory. He almost instantly recognizes that although he shared a common history and ancestry with these people there was a profound gap between his mind and the predominate mind of the city. He finds himself looking inwardly at himself unwantingly and can't stand it. Though he tries to remain intransigent to the truth, he comes to conclude that he cannot run from reality and takes his place under the sun.
