He walked into the Rusty Truck on a Friday night not looking for trouble. Mostly. Cold beer, barstool, long way from home — until some cowboy with a chip on his hat and a jawbone that wouldn't quit made the executive decision to introduce his elbow to a peaceful man of considerable cheer. What happened next involved Big Earl, a woman's potted vine, a bouncer who lasted exactly two steps, a bartender weeping into his rag, and a sheriff who took one look at the situation and walked back out to his cruiser. Somebody Started It (Weren't Me) is a rowdy Celtic punk outlaw bar fight anthem with bagpipes charging in like they've been waiting their whole lives for this exact moment. By midnight everybody was buying rounds and toasting the man who started it. Nobody remembers who that was. Nobody's asking. - Original by Saddle Storms

Lyrics: Walked into the Rusty Truck on a Saturday night Belly full of hunger and a soul not looking for a fight No wait scratch that — I was minding my own Just a cold beer and a barstool and a long way from home Some cowboy with a big mouth and a chip on his hat Started running his jawbone about this and that I smiled real polite-like, turned back to my glass Right up until his elbow found the side of my— Now I want to be clear for the record right here I am a peaceful man of considerable cheer But when somebody swings first what's a body to do I may have swung back Just once Maybe two Somebody started it weren't me Ask the bartender, ask the whole county Chairs in the air and the bottles going down Bouncer's crying in the corner of town Somebody started it I swear on my boots The bagpipes were playing when we pulled up the roots Best Saturday night since the good lord knows when And lord help us all we'd do it again Big Earl from the east side threw a left hook wide Took out the jukebox and a woman's potted vine She screamed bloody murder, hit him with her purse Which knocked him into Darla which made everything worse The bouncer waded in about six foot four Got exactly two steps 'fore he hit the floor The bartender just standing there weeping in his rag Watching forty years of bar stools turn to kindling and slag Now I want to be clear for the record right here I am a peaceful man of considerable cheer But when somebody swings first what's a body to do I may have swung back Just once Maybe two Somebody started it weren't me Ask the bartender, ask the whole county Chairs in the air and the bottles going down Bouncer's crying in the corner of town Somebody started it I swear on my boots The bagpipes were playing when we pulled up the roots Best Saturday night since the good lord knows when And lord help us all we'd do it again The sheriff showed up 'round about half past ten Took one look around and just walked out again Said I don't get paid near enough for this mess Called his wife on the radio and said God bless We all ended up buying each other a round Sitting in the wreckage of what used to be a town Best of friends by midnight, every bruise and black eye Toasting to the cowboy who threw the first — ...nobody remembers.
