This series of four lectures explores one of the key tensions emerging in the Middle East today: the growing rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran – with the US and a number of other powers playing key roles. As the US has begun withdrawing from the Persian Gulf, who will take its place? The oil-rich Saudi kings and Iran’s theocratic republic are each preparing for war – even as many other countries in the region are impacted including Yemen, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Israel and others.
