Saddle Storms - 18 Wheels and Open Sky
18 Wheels and Open Sky | Saddle Storms | Smoke Pipes and Open Sky Album
Three hundred thousand miles on a diesel heart and still not done. She's got cracked leather on the steering wheel, coffee going cold in the cupholder, and three hundred thousand miles behind her with no plans to quit.

18 Wheels and Open Sky is a long haul highway anthem for the men and women born to roll — the ones who don't need four walls and a nine to five, just a full tank and the open sky to drive. Bagpipes roll in hard like an engine finding fifth gear on a long grade. Pedal steel stretches out like a highway that doesn't end. And somewhere around 3 AM at a truck stop outside nowhere, a woman behind the counter pours the coffee without asking because she already knows the look. Grandfather drove horses across this same ground. Father drove a pickup when the pavement came down. Now the road still goes forever for anyone willing to drive through the night and find out where it ends. - Original by Saddle Storms.

Lyrics: She's got three hundred thousand miles on a diesel heart Cracked leather on the steering wheel but she's still road smart Loaded her up at midnight, pointed her west Of all the things I own she's the one I love best Air brakes hissing in the dark at the county line Eighteen wheels rolling steady down the double yellow line Coffee in the cupholder going cold and stale Ain't nothing gonna stop me on this long black trail Some men need four walls and a nine to five I just need a full tank and the open sky to drive 18 Wheels and open sky That's all I need to get by Miles of highway stretching out ahead Radio loud and the road beneath my tread 18 Wheels and open sky Born to roll and born to fly Every mile I put behind me sets me free 18 Wheels and open sky That's enough for me Truck stop outside nowhere, three AM lights Woman behind the counter seen a thousand such nights Poured my coffee without asking, knew the look in my eyes Said you going far honey I said honey I'm going till I find The place where the road runs out and the sky runs in Where the pavement ends and the real world begins She smiled like she'd heard that before from this stool Said son every trucker who sits there says the same and grins Some men need four walls and a nine to five I just need a full tank and the open sky to drive 18 Wheels and open sky That's all I need to get by Miles of highway stretching out ahead Radio loud and the road beneath my tread 18 Wheels and open sky Born to roll and born to fly Every mile I put behind me sets me free 18 Wheels and open sky That's enough for me Grandfather drove horses across this same ground Father drove a pickup when the pavement came down Now I'm hauling freight across the bones of their roads Carrying something forward that nobody else knows That the land is still out there past every city light That the road still goes forever if you drive through the night 18 Wheels and open sky That's all I need to get by Miles of highway stretching out ahead Radio loud and the road beneath my tread 18 Wheels and open sky Born to roll and born to fly Every mile I put behind me sets me free 18 Wheels and open sky That's enough for me That's enough for me
