The 1989/90 FA Cup semi-finals are celebrated as the most dramatic and high-scoring in the tournament's history. Both ties required extra time, producing a staggering 13 goals across the initial matches.

At Villa Park, underdog Crystal Palace shocked league-leaders Liverpool in a historic 4–3 thriller. Alan Pardew scored the extra-time winner, avenging a 9–0 league defeat from earlier that season.

Meanwhile, Second Division Oldham Athletic pushed Manchester United to the limit at Maine Road. A breathtaking 3–3 draw forced a replay, which United narrowly won 2–1 after extra time, courtesy of a Mark Robins goal.
