Continuing Education Course: Telemental Health Essentials: Ethics, Interventions, and Assessment (3 CEs)
Telemental health has become an integral component of psychological practice, offering new opportunities to improve access to care while introducing unique ethical, legal, technological, and clinical considerations. This intermediate-level home study course provides psychologists with a comprehensive overview of evidence-based telehealth practice, integrating current research with practical guidance for delivering high-quality psychological services remotely.
Participants will examine the empirical literature regarding the effectiveness of telemental health across diverse populations and clinical presentations, as well as ethical and legal considerations including informed consent, confidentiality, risk management, documentation, emergency planning, and interjurisdictional practice. The course also addresses practical aspects of establishing and maintaining a telehealth practice, selecting appropriate technology, promoting accessibility, and adapting psychotherapy and psychological assessment for virtual delivery.
Through applied case examples and clinical vignettes, participants will explore strategies for integrating telehealth into routine practice while maintaining professional standards of care. Upon completion of this course, psychologists will be better prepared to implement evidence-informed, ethical, and effective telehealth services that enhance accessibility while meeting contemporary standards for professional practice.
This text-based course includes more than 30,000 words of content, as well as seven vignettes and sample consent paperwork for review. It is estimated to take three to three and a half hours to complete, for 3 CE credits.
