Butterfly Weed, Asclepias tuberosa 50 ct, Small Batch, Organic USA Seeds
The beautiful perennial Butterfly weed, or Asclepias tuberosa, is an easy to care for, bright addition to any pollinator garden. This is the host plant for Monarch butterfly caterpillars. This is a hummingbird favorite as well!
This is a hearty native plant that can withstand drought and sub par soil conditions. This plant does best in full sun, but will tolerate some shade.
Care:
For best germination results, cold stratify seeds by storing them in your refrigerator 4-6 weeks before planting. Start seeds inside 6 weeks before the last frost in spring. Don't cover the seeds with soil. Keep seeds moist during germination. Transplant outside after the seedlings have two sets of leaves.
Planting Method #2:
Plant seeds in the autumn after the first frost. Gently press seeds down, but don't cover. Water once, then leave them to sprout in the spring.
Plants grow up to 28". Space plants 218-4" apart. Perennial in USDA Zones 3-9. You can divide this plant every 2-3 years.
These seeds were hand harvested, so there is a small amount of plant matter in each seed packet.
A small permaculture project, the Rock Island Backyard Food Forest aims to provide food and seed security by building the small community it encompasses with the product it produces. All purchases of seeds directly fund this labor of love.
