Modal Auxiliary Words Flashcards for Teachers, Montessori and Homeschooling
What are the modals for teaching?
These include can, will, must, ought to, may, would, could, should and shall. It can be tricky when attempting to get the message of these particular verbs across to the student or child, so it is important to plan the class carefully. These flashcards will help make teaching modal verbs easier.
We have 7 main uses for modal verbs:
- Ability (e.g. can/could)
- Requests (e.g. would/could)
- Necessity (e.g. must/have to)
- Advisability (e.g. should/ought to)
- Expectations (e.g. supposed to)
- Suggestions (e.g. lets/why don't)
- Probability (e.g. may/might)
How can I use the Flashcards?
There are many different ways that you could use these flashcards, here are some examples:
- Cut them out and laminate them or print them out to each student or child
- As the printable copy is yours to keep and print as many times as you want, you can print multiple copies for many uses.
