The Phurba, or kīla, is a ritual dagger from the Himalayan and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions, used for more than a thousand years by yogis, shamans, and tantric practitioners. Despite its fierce appearance—three edges, wrathful faces, and protective deities—the Phurba was never designed for violence. Its blade is intentionally blunt, symbolising the act of pinning down and dissolving the negative forces known as the maras: fear, confusion, craving, and the subtle energies that obstruct clarity and spiritual progress. Traditionally associated with Vajrakilaya, the deity of piercing insight and energetic protection, the Phurba serves as a tool of sovereignty, focus, and inner purification.

In modern practice, the Phurba’s unique geometry reveals a second purpose: its form fits naturally into the hand, allowing slow, steady pressure along the body’s muscular corridors and energetic pathways. The triangular shaft, tapered point, and rounded pommel make it ideal for tracing cranial sutures, releasing tension around the neck and shoulders, stimulating intercostal spaces, and working deep fascial lines. Used gently over clothing, the Phurba becomes an effective acupressure and massage instrument, helping to clear stagnation, restore circulation, and awaken subtle centres throughout the body—an anatomical expression of the same ancient aim: reclaiming one’s inner ground and strengthening the energetic field.

This Phurba is just over 17cm in length and ideal for reaching difficult-to-access energy centres and muscular knots around the back and shoulders.
