This book is intended to provide those people who work in the oil and gas industry with a basic understanding of the parameters that determine the degree and extent of hazardous (classified) locations. The author has outlined and provided information on specific flammable gases and vapors, flammable liquids, and combustible liquids whose relevant combustion properties have been sufficiently identified to allow their classification into groups that have been established by NFPA 70 (NEC), for proper selection of electrical equipment and wiring methods in hazardous (classified) locations. However, the tables of selected combustible material are not intended to be all-inclusive.
The main purpose of this book is intended to be used as a guideline and should be applied with sound engineering judgment. Where all factors are properly evaluated, a consistent area classification scheme can be developed. This will assist in the selection of special electrical equipment for hazardous (classified) locations where such electrical equipment and wiring methods are required.
Table of Contents
Chapter 1: Electrical Theory
Chapter 2: Electrical Systems
Chapter 3: Automation and Instrumentation
Chapter 4: Hazardous (Classified) Locations (NEC)
Chapter 5: Hazardous (Classified) Locations (OSHA)
This workbook references and includes the requiements of the NEC, NFPA 497, 496, 499, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, as well as OSHA Subarts where applicable.
