The Lady Who Bakes

Do you ever feel wonder what God's purpose and assignment here on Earth is for you? Do you feel like you're “just a mom” (or grandmother), that you're looking in from the outside, watching everyone else “succeed” or do “fun” things, like taking Florida beach vacations or flying to Caba or Italy, while you're just baking, washing dirty dishes and laundry, paying bills, working a dull job, or _______________ (name your daily, boring grind).

Ruby Brink just wants her husband Clark (now a stranger to her in their house), her three beautiful daughters, her grandchildren, and others to love and respect her and want to spend time with her. Ruby is well known for her Martha-perfect cakes, chocolate brownies, cupcakes, cookies, and pies. If there's one thing that she does right, it's baking. She's happy to do this for others, as she "bakes as unto the Lord."

While Clark and Trudie and her gang are happily driving off into the sunset at Panama City, Florida beach without inviting her along, Ruby goes window shopping for chocolate brown, short Fall boots and cheetah belts, gets a Scooter's coffee, turns the music up in her car (singing loudly, "I can't drive 55!"), and spends time with her two cute but annoying cats Stella and Simba in the sunroom at home.

Meanwhile at the beach, Clark, Trudie, and the others face grave danger - twice.

But is this all Ruby is good for - the lady who bakes? What is God's purpose for her life? Isn't there more to life than this?

But perhaps you don't recognize the important work that you do: that of prayer. Loving your family and your friends. You're NOT just “The Lady Who Bakes.”
