Queens Quarter ~ Queens Don't Quit ~ Part 3

The room has been banned.

Madame Hessa said no gatherings and she is not negotiating. The Queens Quarter goes dark just as Ramadan arrives in Zalafia and everything becomes harder and more demanding and more beautiful all at once.

Then a message reaches Zara from home and old Zara comes back overnight. The locked door checked three times. The apologies for small things. The kitchen beginning to slip in ways only Amara notices and quietly covers.

Three women hold a household together and hold each other together and hold the shape of a room that is technically closed but never really closes. They send food under doors. They sit in corridors. They leave notes that say only: the lamp is on.

Part Three is the hardest part and the most human part. The part where queens don’t quit even when quitting would be easier.
