Virtual Reality in Education - Level 1

A practical course for educators exploring immersive learning. Learn how to align VR and immersive technologies with pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment to create meaningful, sustainable learning experiences.

Course Overview

This course provides educators and school leaders with a practical, pedagogy-first approach to immersive learning in education. Rather than focusing on devices alone, the course explores how virtual reality and immersive technologies can be intentionally designed, implemented, and evaluated to support meaningful, measurable learning.

Across the course, participants examine the educational impact of immersive technologies, the conditions required for successful school-wide integration, and why not all VR experiences deliver the same learning value. The course introduces the i⁴M framework (Immersive, Instructional, Inquiry, Independent, Model) as a structured approach to aligning technology, pedagogy, and purpose across classrooms and systems.

Drawing on established best practice from Rayner Digital Labs, the course highlights what high-quality immersive learning looks like in practice and what educators should look for when selecting or evaluating immersive solutions. While examples reference specific models and applications, all skills and strategies are fully transferable across platforms, devices, and learning frameworks.

The course also focuses on building teacher capacity, sustainable professional learning, and governance-ready implementation—supporting educators to move beyond novelty toward immersive learning that is defensible, scalable, and future-focused.

By the end of the course, participants will have a clear understanding of how immersive learning can be embedded as a purposeful instructional approach that supports curriculum alignment, student engagement, and long-term educational impact.
