Proteomics and nanotechnology are two important areas today. This book is designed for senior undergraduate students as well as graduate students to gain experience in bioanalytical techniques associated with proteins and water-soluble nanomolecules such as polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers. These techniques include high performance liquid chromatography, isoelectric focusing and other electrophoresis methods, mass spectrometry, immunoassay and bio-conjugation. As far as possible, the laboratories included in this textbook use inexpensive materials and supplies that are often available in most chemistry and biochemistry departments.
Instead of long laboratories with little learning outcomes, understanding the properties of macromolecules such as proteins and nanomolecules and the strengths and limitations of any given bioanalytical technique is better achieved by using hypothesis-driven short laboratories, problem-solving and hands-on demonstration of important principles associated with bioanalytical methods used for studying macromolecules, which is the focus of this book.
