**********About the book***********
The book provides an overview of the history of mankind and its evolution from the earliest humans from the Stone Age to the 21st century.
The main argument advanced by the author during this vast study is that Homo sapiens owes its status as a dominant species to the fact that it is the only animal capable of cooperating effectively with a large number of its fellows. Harari explains this ability that distinguishes Homo sapiens from other animals by his ability to believe in things that exist only in his imagination, such as gods, nations, money and human rights. One of the theses defended by the author is therefore that all large-scale systems of human cooperation - religions, political structures, work networks and legal institutions - are ultimately fictions5.
Other subjects at the heart of Sapiens include money, presented as a system of mutual trust; capitalism, presented as a religion rather than an economic theory; the empire, described as the most successful political regime in the past two thousand years; the treatment of animals by modern agriculture (or intensive farming), described as one of the greatest crimes in history 6,7; progress, which has not necessarily made humans happier than in the past8; humans, evolving to become gods.
Harari talks about his writing project and the ideas developed in Sapiens in a site he devotes to his book9.
