Conquest and Colony in North America: The Emergence of 13 British Colonies.
This set of lectures examines the distinct histories of the original 13 colonies founded by the British between 1607 and 1760. We will give special focus to the unique social and cultural dimensions that shaped all thirteen and lead to the creation of colonies such as Rhode Island, Maryland and Georgia, places where religious dissenters, convict labor or other malcontents made indelible marks on regional history. Each colony, travelling its own road, nurtured distinct values, cultures, and communities of rebels bent on crafting lives that were never possible in Europe.
