The winter months can be a long dark time and for this reason we have many winter festivals associated with celebrating the returning of the light (often in a hopeful way as ancient civilisations always feared that the longer, warmer days wouldn’t return and there would be no food).

Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of light and it is a beautiful celebration, you may have children in your class who are Jewish and who can talk about their experiences of this festival. Like so many festivals it is celebrated on different dates every year because it is celebrated on the 25th day of Kislev (Hebrew calendar). It is celebrated over 8 days and a candle is lit on the Menorah or the hanukkiyah every day.

I hope you will enjoy exploring the festival of lights with your children.

This lesson plan is age appropriate and includes relaxation techniques such as breathing techniques and simple yoga poses as well as basic mindfulness strategies.

Mindfulness and relaxation have been proven to increase children's concentration, create a calm atmosphere and even increase attainment. It is a wonderful addition to any setting.

All my lesson plans are created for people with no prior knowledge of relaxation and mindfulness techniques and carefully go through every technique step by step. They also include a fun script for you to read through which incorporates all the techniques learned into an enjoyable, relaxing story which is completely age appropriate.

My lessons all come with child and teacher assessment sheets which are fully editable and enable you to show evidence for the progress and learning for each child.

This lesson is most suitable for KS1 and KS2 (4-11 years).
