It’s more than an album—it’s a modern-day book of psalms.

Psalmist is a deeply personal expression of faith, struggle, devotion, redemption, and praise, bringing together the raw honesty of life experiences with the hope and truth found in a relationship with God. Inspired by Ira Dubb’s own journey from the streets of west Charlotte, through incarceration, and ultimately to a transformed life in Christ, the project gives voice to the highs, lows, questions, victories, and spiritual battles that shape the journey of faith.

Having been captivated by Hip-Hop culture from an early age, Ira Dubb draws from the sounds and spirit of the Golden Era, blending the soulful feel of 90s and early-2000s Southern neo-soul and Hip-Hop with worship-driven content and contemporary Christian Hip-Hop. The result is a sound that feels both nostalgic and fresh—rooted in where he came from while pointing toward where God has called him to go.

But Psalmist is not simply about making Christian music. It is about using music as a vessel for testimony, truth, worship, and transformation. Ira’s thought-provoking wordplay reflects real-life experiences while addressing faith, perseverance, social justice, equality, identity, and the everyday struggle to live a life devoted to God.

Each song serves as another page in this modern-day psalter—sometimes a prayer, sometimes a testimony, sometimes a cry, and sometimes a celebration. The project acknowledges that faith does not mean the absence of struggle; it means discovering God’s presence in the middle of it.

For Ira Dubb, music has always been more than entertainment. During his incarceration, he became a member of M.O.G. (Ministers of Grace), a collective of men who wrote and created music together while navigating their own journeys. His experiences, along with his involvement with The Balm Squad youth ministry, helped shape a passion for using music and creativity to encourage others, share the Gospel, and give thanks to God for the life and breath he has been given.

That same passion continues through Psalmist.

Rather than treating worship as simply a musical style, Psalmist challenges listeners to see worship as a lifestyle—one expressed not only through songs, but through faith, obedience, perseverance, love, justice, and devotion to God.

This is Hip-Hop with a testimony.

This is worship with a story.

This is struggle turned into praise.

This is Psalmist.
