A Bright Light On Al-Kitaab Vocab - Ch.03 - Education

Learning new vocabulary can be daunting, especially for adults whose minds are already occupied with study, work, and other responsibilities. Therefore, never learn a single word by itself. Learn groups of words that “travel” together.

For example, instead of memorizing the word “رطوبة”, memorize the phrase “رطوبة عالية”. Instead of remembering the word “هواية”, remember the phrase “هوايتي المُفضّلة”.When you remember phrases instead of single words, you ensure that you know how to actually use them in at least one sentence.

In order to acquire vocabulary in more efficient way, one must focus on learning them in the context we most likely to find them. We're more likely to recognise them when we encounter them or need to use them again. Learning long lists of unrelated words is boring, difficult and doesn't help much when you come across those words in a different context. Grouping words alleviates this problem and makes the memorising much easier and clearer.

This chapter covers most of the nouns, verbs, singular and plural forms of education related vocab and it features:

  • Hundreds of sentencse, words and expressions
  • 9 drills that demonstrate how the related vocab are used
  • An answer key to gauge your comprehension
