Russia’s Road to Kyiv: A Modern History of Russia and Ukraine
This series of 4 lectures is designed to provide historical context for events that are happening in Ukraine today. The focus will be on Russia and Ukraine’s historical relationship dating back to the Middle Ages, how it was transformed in Czarist times, and with special focus on the Soviet and post-Soviet era from 1917 to 2000. We will discuss key events such as the Mongol invasions, the Cossack Uprising of the 1768, the purges of the kulaks in the early 1930s, and Ukrainian independence in 1991 and what came after.
