The print has its own story. And here it is:

Beyond Death

"Death isn’t what people think it is," Mumo explained. "It is a field of magic where a person becomes all-powerful. You can create anything you want."

"Like what?" Vita tilted her head.

"Absolutely anything you truly desire. For example, if someone sincerely wants to meet their deceased relatives, they will. Of course, it won’t really be them. Those roles are usually played by the 'Balancers.' Just like every other role in this performance staged for a single person."

"So… the person is alone there?"

"In a way, yes. It is their own magical world. Death strips away all the social clutter—the obligations, the fake concern for others. What’s left is just the self. And in that world, you can encounter anything, go anywhere."

"So, they can be a ghost?"

"Not really. But they can easily imagine themselves being a ghost. And for them, it will be real."

"Can you give me an example of what people want after they die?" Vita asked.

"Yes, of course," Mumo agreed. "Look, do you see that old lady?"

A small procession was moving slowly along the park path toward them. Younger and middle-aged relatives walked beside an elderly woman with a cane. The cane and the woman's small heels clicked sharply against the asphalt.

The old lady was tiny; next to someone like her, you always feel like a giant. A string of pearls rested on her neck.

As Vita watched, Mumo went on:

"Her relatives will receive a good inheritance, though not as soon as they expect. I should say, the old woman is no longer clinging to life. At the same time, she isn’t in a hurry to die either. There’s a calmness in her attitude toward death. You don’t see that often. But she won't die soon, because she hasn't finished the 'tasks of her soul' yet."

"What tasks?"

"She needs to visit a certain place—something very important to her will happen there. She has wanted to go there for a long time, but she is so sure she will die soon that she isn't ready to start the journey. A year will pass. The place will still "call" to her. But she will regret spending the money, even though she has plenty. Another year will pass. She will finally decide to go, but she won't be able to because her health will truly be too weak. She will become bedridden. Her train will have already left. Over the next few years, she will waste all her chances. Her soul won't receive the necessary energy and will have to go for a 'second round.'"

"But can't she visit her magical place after death?" Vita asked.

"Remember what I told you? Only true desires—and true faith—manifest there," Mumo said. "Well, after death, she will choose to repeat one single day from her life—the one she considers the happiest. That day was connected to some romantic events. She will live it many times. Like in the movie Groundhog Day. Over and over again, starting from the moment she wakes up."

"And how many times will she do that?"

"About thirty. Then she will get bored. And the Balancers will pack her into the 'archive' until the next launch of the Universe. Just like everyone else."

"You've seen many stories like this, haven't you?" Vita asked.

"Very many."

"Then tell me, what do people usually do in that magical place?"

"Most of them create a real hell for themselves."

Vita was silent, thinking for a while. After a pause, she said:

"It seems nothing really changes, even after death... People create hell for themselves in life too. With their own hands. With their own thoughts."
