The story begins with Beerus, the God of Destruction, in a state of boredom and seeking a challenge worthy of his power. While meditating, he remembers an old prophecy about an Ancient Legendary Super Saiyan named Akuma. This Saiyan is said to possess power that surpasses even that of Broly and is fabled to awaken when Planet Vegeta is in peril or if summoned by the Super Dragon Balls.
